Description
- The “Soloist” Script: It typically features a script “Soloist” engraving on the table (the flat part where the reed sits).
- Scroll Shank: The distinctive scroll-patterned ring around the base of the shank is a hallmark of this era.
- Markings: The engraving shows the Selmer Paris logo and “MADE IN FRANCE”.
- Long Shank vs. Short Shank: This model appears to be the Long Shank version, which was the successor to the “short shank” and the precursor to the modern S80 series.
These mouthpieces are highly sought after by players for their dark, rich tone and are often associated with legendary jazz musicians like Joe Henderson and Kenny Garrett. Because of their age, many show a brownish discoloration from the oxidation of the hard rubber.
