Description

The Selmer AS300 is a highly regarded student-model alto saxophone, notable for being the last student line manufactured by Selmer in the USA (Elkhart, Indiana). It is widely considered a “tank” in the industry—durable enough for school band programs while offering a richer, more focused tone than many modern import student models.
Key Specifications & Features
  • Target Level: Beginner to intermediate students.
  • Construction: Durable yellow brass body with ribbed post construction, which adds strength and enhances tonal stability.
  • Keywork: Includes a High F# key (on most models) and power-forged nickel-plated keys for increased durability against heavy student use.
  • Ergonomics: Designed with a responsive key layout often cited as comfortable for smaller hands.
  • Sound Quality: Features metal resonators and a bore design influenced by professional Selmer Paris models, resulting in a warm, vibrant sound.
Why Choose the AS300?
  • Build Quality: Its “Made in USA” status is often seen as a mark of superior durability compared to newer, budget-friendly student horns.
  • Resale Value: It holds its value well on the used market because it is a “workhorse” instrument favored by band directors.
  • Ease of Repair: Because of its standard construction, most local repair shops can easily find parts and service these instruments.
