Description

This is a vintage “Meliphone Special” mouthpiece manufactured by The Woodwind Co. of New York. These mouthpieces were produced primarily between the 1920s and the late 1960s and were favored for their clear intonation and “cutting power”.
Key Features
  • Material: It is made of “Steel Ebonite,” a high-quality, dense hard rubber (vulcanized rubber). Despite the name, it contains no steel; the term was a marketing name for the company’s proprietary, durable rubber compound.
  • Instrument: This model was made for alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, as well as Bb clarinets
  • Sound Profile: Known for a warm, “classical” tone with a narrow but tall chamber design. Professional saxophonists like Dick Stabile and members of the Paul Whiteman and Guy Lombardo orchestras used this model.
