Produced in Paris, they are particularly notable for their connection to the Charles Chedeville company, which Lelandais acquired in 1949.
Key Characteristics & History
- French Sound: These mouthpieces are described as having an “extremely French” sound with focused projection.
- Innovative Design: Lelandais was a pioneer in experimenting with “streamline” mouthpieces—designs featuring thinner bodies and walls to enhance vibration and response.
- Material Quality: Early 20th-century pieces were often machined from high-quality, super-resonant hard rubber. Some 1920s designs even featured a hybrid construction of hard rubber with a metal table.
- Legacy: After producing mouthpieces through the 1970s, the company’s remains were eventually purchased by Glotin.
